Ernie’s Journey invites students to step into a day of adventure, discovery, and shared experience. Guided by Ernie the Emu and his mates, children investigate the world around them—engaging their senses, asking questions, and following their imagination through forests, creeks, hills, and hidden places.

This is a journey that encourages children to wonder, play, observe, and reflect—building connections between what they experience and the world they live in.

Start with story

The day begins with the opening pages of Ernie’s Journey, setting the scene for exploration. This beautifully illustrated book provides a narrative thread as children begin their adventure.

Discover, wander, play

From splashing barefoot in a creek to crawling through tunnels or wandering wooded tracks, students explore their surroundings with open-ended discovery in mind. Along the way, they meet Ernie’s mates and uncover hidden moments of uncover hidden moments of joy, awe and wonder.

Reflect and create

The journey ends with reflection time as students return to the book. They draw and write about their discoveries—creating their own “Map to Treasure” to take home as a memory and learning keepsake.
